As per official notifications issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), NIOS certificates are completely equivalent to CBSE, ICSE, and any State Board. NIOS pass students are fully eligible for NDA, Indian Army/Navy recruitment, SSC, UPSC, and admission into regular CBSE Class 11th or Polytechnic Diplomas.
Yes! Under the Transfer of Credit (TOC) scheme, students who failed or obtained compartment marks in CBSE, ICSE, or recognized State Boards can transfer marks for up to two passed subjects. You only need to appear and pass the remaining 3 subjects in NIOS or BOSSE to receive a fresh, fully valid passing certificate.
To earn a secondary certification from NIOS, a student must pass a minimum of 5 subjects, which must include at least 1 language subject (up to a maximum of 2 languages). The passing mark in each subject is 33% (aggregating theory, TMA marks, and practical exam marks where applicable).
